DUST!

I was looking at the inside of my case and there is a HUGE amount of dust in it. Im going to be buying a new rig soon and i was wondering what i could do to get rid of this problem that i have now for my new system. Im guessing 2 fans one intake at the front and one exhaust at the back? I will probably be getting a Antec Sonata.

Best thing to do is to get the fan filters that are made for case fans.

Of course, if your pc sits on the ground, you'll be cleaning the filter a lot. 🙂

HTH,

Keep the room your computer is in Dust-free, vacuum and such things, and add fan filters as well.

I have a filter that came with my case (OEM clone of the Antec 3700AMB) and the inside still gets pretty dusty, though the filter does catch a lot of the dust. Only thing to do is to buy cans of compressed air and blow out the dust every now and then.

simply blowing out the dust doesnt really help, because where's it going to go when you blow it out...has to go somewhere, and then its just going to get sucked back into your system. vaccum the room your in, dust if you have to but its incredibly effective, and hey the women like it when the rooms clean 😛

Exactly. Unplug the case and take it outside with a can of compressed air. Then dust away, and be sure to get all of the nooks and crannies in there.

I usually dust out my case every month or two - the CPU HSF picks up a lot of dust in that time (it's a Zalman with lots of surface area), as do most of the fans.

will a vacuum hose with a plastic nozzle (the ones that allow you into tight spaces) be enough?
I don't think i should worry about a static shock onto the board given that plastic doesn't conduct electricity

no, you gotta blow it out. and yes, static from plastic brush or hose tip is bad, thats why u gotta use in combination with blower. i find a windowed case gives decent encouragement/warning on the dust issue.
course u can just get an air filter for ur room too

Best thing I've done for dust prevention is aquiring 1 air cleaner for my room. It not only clears my Puter but my lungs as well 😉
