Dust on the *other side* of monitor panel glass...

Ok, I just got a new ViewSonic A75f monitor (Aperture grille), and I noticed really quickly that there seems to be a foreign object (dust or something) on the OTHER SIDE of the "screen" where I can't get to it(of course).

What should I do? I have a real itch just to see if can clean the other side of the outside screen (Yeah, I know that opening monitors are VERY dangerous). Does anyone know the anatomy of an aperture grille screen? Is there an external panel glass (you know, the anti-reflective screen) covering the "tube" of which I can clean the other side of?

This thing is getting on my nerves.

Thanks.

Define the foreign object you see a bit better.

Also, you cant really disassemble a monitor tube. They are made once and then meant to live their life without being played with.

I would go exchange it. The picture tube is vacuum sealed. No cleaning the inside of the glass.

Is it a speck of dust or a vertical black line? Sometimes in shipping the grill elements get overlapped. To fix......open a white window over the spot. Turn up the brightness and contrast(max) and leave it for 5-10 minutes.
See if this helps. If this is the problem that should make it disappear. Don't forget to reset your contrast & brightness afterward.
Another fix would be to give the monitor a solid "rap" on the side (with your hand)....helping to reposition the grill.

Let's see....

The foreign object can be described as a "dust" particle approximately one to two millimeters in length. It is comparable to a speck of dust that would accumulate on your screen if you didn't clean it...its like a piece of lint. Perhaps got trapped in there while manufacturing.

Yeah, I know about the wires across aperture grille tubes. :) I mean, when I went to clean the monitor off for the first time, I just thought I could just wipe this thing off, and then, !uh-oh! I couldn't seem to get to it. It isn't a dead pixel either, because like you can clearly see the pixels behind the foreign object. No, its a piece of dust alright. And its really annoying. I tried flicking the screen to try to knock it loose, but no go. Its a shame because this is now my FOURTH monitor in as many weeks. I had focusing problems and dead pixels right out of the box with the other three, but this monitor's pictures are real nice, but there's this piece of dust in there!!! ARGGH!

Thanks.

1-2mm for apiece of dust! no way! thats way to big. sounds more like lint like you said. phone up viewsonic and see what they have to sya. They may well exchange it for a new one.

You can not have a dead pixel on a CRT based monitor.
That only applies to LCD's, as they have a seperate powered pixel for each dot.
A CRT is sealed just like a light bulb.
Perhaps the phosphorus is burnt, or the purity is slightly out.
One way to tell is to turn off 2 of the guns, and crank the 3rd gun up.
Try that with all three.
Chances are with one of the combinations, your "dust" will be gone.
If it is gone, then of course dust was never there.
Sometimes a strong magnetic field nearby will cause this.
Demagnatizing (degaussing) the CRT, may work is some cases.
Adjusting the purity rings (if present) may also fix it.

Yeah, if this is a calibration or focussing error it still means one thing.... RMA. There isn't much you can do on your own to fix it.

RMA'ing to ViewSonic is a pain in the ass. I love my PS970-2, but it's starting to flicker a bit at certain resolutions. (I notice it most on dark blue screens, like the BIOS). They told me it'll take like 3-4 weeks to REPAIR, not replace. The real kicker is I have to either ship it up to a shop an hour an a half away, or drive it up there myself.

No, actually this this monitor's overall quality of display is fine if not great. Images and what not are very clear and crisp. Its just this speck of dust that seems to be have been trapped in there. If I had a digital camera I'd take a picture of it for you guys. Remember, since the foreign object has nothing to do with any pixels, if I move my head to the left of the speck, It would appear if it has moved to the right, and vice versa. As opposed to if this was a pixel problem, the problem areas would still look bad.

Anyone know what I'm saying?
