It's cases like this which severely damage my faith in the judicial system

http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/11/11/fugitive.heir.ap/index.html

This millionaire with a family running a billion-dollar business was found not guilty of murder after he killed a man, cut up his body, then dumped it in a bay. His defense was that he was acting in self-defense and cut up the body "in a panic". He was a fugitive for 6 months after the killing.

What exactly do you know more than the jurors who listened to the case for weeks leads you to believe their verdict was wrong?

The jurors were on TV and from what they said the prosicution had witnesses who's testimony conflicting, evidence conflicts about when it actually occured, etc. Thats not to say he couldn thave been found of a lesser charge. The DA should have payed attention to that.

So in your mind, you find nothing wrong with mutiliating a corpse and dumping it into a river after killing them? Then fleeing law enforcement for 6 months?

The whole story sounds messy...

first of all like someone said... he mutilated the body, stole this guys head, and dumped him in a river.... and this was Panic?... I know that when I panic I dont start chopping people up...

secondly he supposedly shot the guy whilst wrestling for... his own gun.... hmmm

third he's suspected of two other killings (nobody is that unlucky to have to kill 3 times on 3 seperate occasions in self defense)

He fled for 6 months in his state of "Panic" with 5 POUNDS of pot.... Lemme just say this aloud:

You killed a guy who was trying to kill you with a gun that you hid, you killed him by "accidentally" shooting him in the face... then in a state of panic, you chopped up his body, and fled with a 5 pound bag of weed....

ummmmmm nooooo I dont think so...

Thank you max, I started to get scared there finding someone who found the whole situation acceptable. I thought perhaps the Head Hunter tribes of Indonesia have visited an Internet Cafe. the two fishy things are, to find nothing wrong with whole bizarre situation as Max eloquently described, and the prosecution putting all their eggs in one basket.

It seems to me that this Durst dude has some serious psychological issues. He obviously isn't well mentally to have been arrested while trying to steal sandwiches and bandages when he had $500 dollars in his pocket.

Would Durst have won if he didn't have the cash for top notch lawyers? I think not.

the prosecution messed it up. besides what the media says isnt always accurate or admissable in court. Unless you were there for the trial dont accuse this guy. remember its reasonable doubt. and as i said before maybe the only count the DA brought was murder2. Mutilation doesnt fall under murder two. neither does fleeing.
QUOTE:
At defense attorneys' request, jurors considered only a murder charge. They could have asked that jurors consider a lesser charge, such as manslaughter, in addition to murder.

The DA shouldnt have been so confident. even if he did cut up the body, and steal and run, he only killed the guy in self defense. Blame the DA not the jury.

bekoyu: Good to know you haven't read about the case. If anyone should go to jail in addition to this muderer, it's the DA. You don't "double-or-nothing" in court cases.

I envy you, it's constantly being brought up on my local news station because he lived in a town next to me most of his life
