Duron with pc 2100 ddr

I'm building a rig for a friend and am wondering if there will be any significant performance gain when running a 1.3 duron with ddr 2100 as opposed to pc 133? I was planning on using the Asus A7N266-VM (NForce 220). But will the duron be able to take advantage of the added bandwith?

The Duron has a effective 200 MHz Bus or double 100 MHz. PC2100 is 133 Mhz double to 266 MHz. PC1600 is 100 Mhz double to 200 MHz.

I would still get the PC2100 and you would see about 5% gain, some lower and some higher to about 15%. It's worth the investment.

There won't be any gain by running PC2100 at PC1600. It will have the same performance characteristics as the latter. Unless you overclock your CPU by increasing the FSB there won't be any gain to using the faster memory...other than the fact that you can use it on a board with a 133Mhz FSB later on.

between ddr and sram yes there is a performance increase.

and you do want to use pc2100 with the integrated video. the extra bandwidth can go to video.

The Duron should run very well whether it's running at a default 200mhz speed or overclocked with a 266 FSB. You should always opt for DDR if the price is not appreciable more than PC133.

Personally speaking, I'd unlock the your friend's Duron and run it at 133x10 instead of 100x13. I noticed a very significant boost in performance by doing this and I personally don't really consider this overclocking (although some other people might).

Here's another question, would it make more sense to shell out the extra $8 to get an Athlon xp 1600 to take advantage of the extra memory bandwith?

Hell, if it's only $8 more, definitely get the XP. The Duron is a great chip, but it doesn't compare to an XP.

Whoops...I seem to have confused the question with some of the info that motoamd's posted. Adul is right on the money though. The added bandwidth will be useful with integrated video and can be utilized by the CPU it the FSB is overclocked.

Ok, last question if I were to get an Athlon Xp 1600 would that take bandwith away from the integrated video because of the increased front side bus?

put it this way: your video is never going to catch up to your cpu if it is intergrated so don't worry about it. you won't get performance out of on board video...

the xp1600 is a great cpu right now, but i'd couple it with a kt333 if you ever plan to oc it much.

btw: the durons over 1.0ghz have the same athlon xp core so they greatly increase in performance with a kt266a or kt333 or nforce ddr.....

dew.
