What is a HB pencil. I used a cheap 50 cent mechanical pencil to do my L1 bridges. Does it matter what kind of pencil I use? I can only get 850mhz with both of the week 29 processors that I have. I have been told I might be able to do more if I retrace the L1 bridges. Can anyone confirm this? thanks

It stands for Hard Black. Really, look HERE.

If your able to adjust the FSB and multiplier, there's probably some
other reason(s) for it not going higher.

first off, it DOES matter what thickness you use........too hard will mess stuff up, too soft will blow off the cpu, or better yet, short circuit it.

as for confirming, i cant do that. just go back, erase what you have, and start over, TAKING YOUR TIME, and put a LOT of graphite on it......

The best type of graphite to use is 2HB and a thickness of 0.5 or less. (I use 0.3, although you have to watch out because the lead breaks quite easily).

Just use a regular mechanical pencil and you willbe fine. Don't grind it on the processor. What you want is for some graphite to cover the cut pins, so some circuit can go through. If you use a hard pencil, it prorbably wont leave enough graphite, if it is too soft, it will leave to much graphite, perhaps connecting one bridge to another, whcih you don't want. Go to a bookstore and buy a simple BIC mechanicl pencil and you'll be fine.
Yes, I can confirm that retracing may help. What I would do is erase the old pencil marks with an eraser and then try again. It worked for me.
