What would be the real world perfromance difference between a 1Ghz Duron and a 1Ghz Athlon (thunderbird), having all other components the same?

I've *heard* that the difference is about 5-10% for most things.

Note the *heard*.

If money is that tight, maybe you should save up a bit.

About 5-10%. The Duron has the advantage of data prefetch, and SSE. My Duron 1200 @ 1320 (110 FSB) is about equal in performance to a 1.2GHz Athlon in most of the tests i've run.
