Duron&thermal paste

Although AMD disapproves thermal paste usage, I really think I need it. After replacing my no-name crappy CPU cooler with Titan's Majesty TTC-M5AB, CPU's temperature went up from 46C to 60C idle (according to mobo's thermistor), I didn't even dare to run in under full load like that. Is it possible that my mobo's termistor just shows pure BS (somewhy mobo thinks that cooler's fan runs on 12000 RPM, too)? Mobo is ASUS A7V with 1004D BIOS. I really appreciate any help or advice :(

Does the majesty look like a chrome orb? If thats the one I am thinking of don't get that... you'd be better off with a Taisol Cek733 (if you don't want to OC and save some money) or a GlobalWin FOP32-1 (if you plan to OC). You should always use thermal grease, whether you overclock or not. I'd recommend using Artic Silver thermal compound ($12-14). Or you could buy some silicon thermal grease from Radioshack or online ($2).

Thanks for answering, I already though out what was wrong: Titan cooler had 2 cover films over the thermal grease and I only removed one :) Anyway, I knew that Titan isn't the best CPU cooler but in my country I don't have a lot of choice, Titan is pretty much only one avalible.

The Titan cooler looks like an ORB but is not the same. AMD has approved the Titan but they have never approved any of the ORBs.

BTW, Radio Shack thermal grease is not good for BIRDS and Durons. The grease will dry out and or squeeze out due to the high heat and high clip pressure required on Socket A hsfs.

Your lucky that you had a Duron and not a TBIRD, BIRDS will burn up if all the protective film is not removed.

I still have the other mystery: why does my mobo thinks that CPU fan runs 10000-12000 RPM ? I don't really belive that somewhy, has anybody seen something like that before ?
