Duron Temp and Thermal Paste help?

Ok I just bought a 1.2 GHZ Duron with an MSI Kt3 ULTRA. When I fired it up it runs at 49 C at idel temperature. I have not put a load on it yet, but this seems high to me. I am not sure, but I dont think a DURON should run this hot. What is a good temp to shoot for with a duron 1200 without OCing?

Also I am using a cheap no-name, white, thermal paste. I think this could be affecting it and as a reult I am going to get some Arctic Silver II. If I have allready applied the white stuff, do I have to remove it to use Arctic Silver? I of course will remove it from the HSF when i take it off the CPU.

If I have to totally remove the WHITE thermal paste off the cpu die, how is this done? Any info to these regards will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

You didn't mentioned your most critical part, the HSF! First, get a good HSF. Without good hardware you are out of luck. Your chip should idle at about 43ºC with a room temp of 30ºC. To get better cooling get a better HSF or a high flow fan to replace the one on your current HS.

the MSI Kt3 ultra should read the internal diode... which the morgan chip has...

What is your system temp? i'm gonan guess that with your certain combination of hardware/cooling, and if the motherboard is setup to read the diode, that your temps are generally on target with where they should be.
