According to their database Overclockers

503 Duron 600's averaged 927
225 Duron 650's averaged 880
249 Duron 700's averaged 951.

Dunno what it means other than I would avoid 650's.

I have a 700 @ 1ghz as well..
g'luck.

I wouldn't buy the KT7.
You'd have to put up with the chances of:
-a horrible Abit RMA.
-high point controller

Get the MSI k7t pro2a or teh asus a7v.

The best cooler is an Alpha 6035 which can be had at

Duron 800 at 1000Mhz at 1.725v
When I put it at 1050 is does fine as long as I don't do any tweaks. Even as simple and choosing "yes" to "DRAM timing by SPD" in the bios. So my chip has found a limit at 1Ghz...such a shame for a $75 chip, eh? :D

sig.... I would like to add that the chances of getting 1 ghz are real low. I know people have claimed to get it and I am sure some of them have. I have done 4 computers for friends of this type and none would do 1 ghz. I had 2 that did 850, one that does 900, and one that does 950mhz. The one that does 950 runs at 40C at idle and 43 under load. It is not the temp that is the problem. I think it needs more juice but I am at the maximum now and I am not going to modify my motherboard to give it more. I have all the good parts too. My mushkin ram is 222 and amd tested and my power supply is 300w and amd tested. I think if you buy one of the later durons your chances are much better. Of course you could go to onvia and get a 1 ghz thunderbird for $209 then use the $40 off coupon to make it $169. That is a good deal. If the price had been that low I might have gotten one of those. If it is one with copper interconnects then it might do 1.2 or 1.2 ghz. good luck!

I'm one of those claiming a gig out of a 600.:)

it's at 1.75 volts on a Abit KT7 non-raid with a Alpha sink and a 7000rpm fan, runs 40c at idle and 43c at full load

I just built a computer for my Dad using the K7Tpro2, if i had to do it over I'd have bought that MSI board for myself, it's a nice board and very stable.

My week 22 650 only goes to 900 at 1.65v. Anything higher clocked and it's not stable, any higher voltage and it will eventually lock up. Cheapie $9 cooling fan to blame, but I really don't care enough to repace it, especially since it's whisper quiet and I sleep in the same room with the opened-case system.

Pretty durn happy with that outcome.

Duron 600 @ 1ghz on Abit KT7 (non-raid). The Duron is week32 as I recall. At 1.8v using artic silver and Alpha Pal3065 with a sunon 23.5cfm fan it runs around 44c idle or when doing non-intensive tasks. Under gaming/rc5 it rises to a maximum around 48c. Of course, these temps are all taken using motherboard monitor which reads the motherboards sensor which has been proven to be VERY inaccurate so I am not sure exactly what the actual temps are. All I know is that it runs stable. Origionally the Alpha had a mini-tornado delta 7200 rpm fan on it that kept it cooler at around 42c idle and 45c under load but it was just WAY WAY WAY too loud. I would also tell you that the Abit has been a wonderful mobo so far. Absolutely no major problems which is lucky for me since I know they have a horrible RMA policy and a high defect rate. Them little durons are damn fast and damn cheap, can't ask for more.

my sig.....

Also from my experience Abit has been good to me, but from what I've heard on these forums and elsewhere, Abit doesn't have wonderful QA. I've owned 2- BP6's and one KT7 Raid. I had the Highpoint controller die on one of the BP6's. In the future I think I'm going to look at MSI or Asus. I had an Asus K7M which was a great board, but difficult to overclock. I've never owned an MSI, but I think I will soon.
