Retail Duron 650 + Abit K7t-raid, set multiplier 8.5, core volt. 1.775 FSB 100. =>850. No special HSF used just the one comes with the retail box. The system seems stable. Idle temp 51c, full load 54c. Is it too high?

Problem with HD. I installed Hotpoint ATA100 driver and connect the IBM hard drive 75GXP(?) to IDE3. The drive performance degrade significantly. Now I moved back to IDE-1. Any advise? Thanks.

Temps in the low to mid 50's are right on the border of too hot. Try to get into the low 40's if possible. A better heatsink such as a taisol, a global win fop 32 or fop 38 will help a lot. Also keep the case cool, and use a good thermal compound for the heatsink. I can't help with the HDD, sorry.

I'll have to update my sig. I've found that my 950 runs more around 35. At a 'G' it runs about 36-37. FOP32-1 are sweet!!!

Your Chip does not run at sub 40C. It is a lie because of how CPU temps are measured on socket A cpu's.

Your actual core temp would be at least 24C over ambient air temp. I highly doubt your ambient air temp is 12C(53F). Your Actual CPU core temp would should be in the 43-50 Range at best.

michaelh888,

Your chip would put out roughly 47W of heat. With the stock heatsink, if you're using the later kt7 bios, your temp of 54C is not too bad. It would be better with a better heatsink, but you'd still be looking at temps at least 16C over ambient, so you might be able to get your temps down to the low 40s with a good heatsink/cooling setup.

Don't expect to drop your temps into the 30s, with any heatsink, while overclocking a Socket A cpu. It simply is not possibly with conventional cooling.

Thanks for all advice.

I am in Texas. The room temp is around 26C. I did use some thermal paste from Radio Shack. Maybe I should have purchased a OEM Duron plus one of the HSF you recommended.
