I have an 800 retail duron on a msi k7t-pro 2 mobo. The chip is unlocked the L1's are bridged. When I set the mobo to 8.5 it runs at 850. When I set it at 9 it runs at 700 makes no sense to me. Also my mobo only goes to 1.80 on the voltage not 1.85. Any ideas?

You might want to check the bridges are connected correctly ,try here.
BTW are the multipliers chnaged in the bios or on dipswithces?

geek1543,

If your sure the L1 is connected %100. You might want to search in the MotherBoard Fourms. Alot of people thats O/C are having that same problem it sounds like but there using the new k7t-pro2-A.

Nah, I've had to redo them before. I had the same damn thing happen a couple times. Take your paint off with solvent and redo it. ;)

geek1543 and all,
Looks like one L1 bridge unlocking is faulty, (3rd from the left). Here's the algorithm that allows you to diagnose the problem.

TotalX = 3X Base + sum of .5X, 1X, 2X, 4X "Bits/Adders" Enabled, except Add 8X when Total X = 3X thru 4.5X. (This is what the settings table decodes to...simple).

So for default 800, TotalX = 8X = 3X Base and the 1X and 4X adders are Enabled by default.

For 850, OK, TotalX = 8.5X = 3X Base + .5X + 1X + 4X, you Enabled .5X so that L1 is OK.

For 900, NG, TotalX = 9X = 3X base + 2X + 4X, which means you Disabled the .5X, and 1X, and Enabled the 2X Adders. But you got 700 = 7X, which suggests that the .5X and 1X L1 bridges are closed/OK, but the 2X Adder was NOT Enabled, which would result in a 7X setting, right?? Bad 2X L1 bridge closing??..3rd from left.

Also, you say you checked for L1 bridges continuity. But maybe you have continuity of the bridging material, but bad contact to bridges below. We check for continuity from socket pins to the 1K resistors.

See http://members.nbci.com/candjac/index.htm Duron OC article for details, pinouts, pics....

Take John's advice. Definitely a site worth reading, and with his help I actually understood most of what is there. Like he says, check continuity through the pins, not from the top of the chip. His site should tell you which pins to use.

John, this is the Air Force guy who corresponded with you a couple weeks ago, thanks again.
