Duron Overclocking Observations and Questions

Well, I have spent the day playing with my A7V and a pretested (600@950) Duron and it has left me with a number of questions and observations. I noticed that the dipswitch settings printed in the manual are wrong - I ended up getting the correct ones off Asus web site. I noticed that these chips get hot. I noticed that whoever tested my Duron must have used a better HSF than the generic one I am using while waiting for my FOP38. The best I could get was 900Mhz (and the chip was 71C). I noticed I coulkd get to 700 @ default voltage but 800 would boot until I upped the voltage. I also noticed that the voltage reported by the board is higher than what I think I am seeting it too (doesn't match jumper table).

My questions are:

1) What is the normal operating temp for a Duron on a ASUS A7V V1.02

2) What are the Max safe voltages and temps for the Duron?

3) Has anyone elsed notice the voltage anomaly and is the board reporting the correct voltage?

Depending on where you place the thermister, the temp should be somewhere around 35-50C. Maybe hotter if you place it really really close to the core.

As for voltage, the Duron should be able to handle 1.85, or even 1.90v. Just watch the cooling. I woudldn't do this on stock cooling since the Duron does get pretty hot.

About the A7V and the voltage, it appears that for some reason that if you are using a BIOS before 1004, the voltage would be about .05 above what you set it at. This is a feature, not a bug. ;)

Well, the board I have has the thermistor built in so I don't know if that counts as close to the core. At default voltage I think I was getting 48C currently it is set to 800 and the motherboard is reporting 1.79V and 56C. At one point I had the chip running at 900 with the voltage reported as 1.9V and 70C it posts at 950 and 1000 but will not get into windows. (I didn't run it for more than 5 minutes at 70 I was afraid sure that must be kind of high). I plan on going back to 700 and default voltage until my FOP38 and Artic Silver show up. I also have a 600 with the L1 bridges intact to test. The one I have been trying up until now is a pretested one (950) that I bought that had the pencil trick applied to it (by the place I bought it from). If the unmodded one is as fast I might keep it too.
