Duron overclocking...HELP!!!

Here are my system specs,

Duron 600
ASUS A7V
Voodoo3 2000 AGP @ 143MHz
128MB PC100 RAM (64 MB x2)
Fujitsu 8.4GB hard drive
Sound Blaster Live value
Generic 44x CD-ROM
250W power supply
FSB = 100MHz
Cooler Master fan and heatsink
55 C at idle with case closed

My Duron wont go past 750MHz. I've tried raising the core voltage up to 1.75V but when I do that the -5V starts going out of tolerance. How high does it usually need to be to hit 800MHz? I've also tried raising the I/O voltage to 3.69V (the highest setting) with no luck. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks guys. 🙂

EDIT: I noticed that the north bridge was getting quite hot, should I try putting some cooling on it?

750 may be all you get. Overclocking is luck of the draw. Some CPU's just don't have it in them to go higher. One area you didn't mention is heat. If you're throwing 1.75 volts at it, you better have some good cooling on that bad boy. Less heat will let you go to higher speed with stability.

Your chip is running too hot. I only experience 55 degrees when my Duron is at 1Ghz and that's after it has run 3DMark.

I think you need better airflow and ventilation.

Thanks for your input guys. I thought that 55 C was a bit too hot as well. I'll buy some better cooling and see how it goes. Oh and I'm using a 250W power supply, is that enough? I thought 250W would be ok for a Duron.

I hope that 750MHz isn't the limit on my chip but as CTweak said, overclocking is the luck of the draw. I'll get some better cooling asap and get back to you on it. Thanks again. 🙂

I'm thinking power supply also. 250watts might be ok, but there is more to consider than watts. Check out AMD's approved/recommended power supply list.

55C is a bit hot, my 600@750 runs at only 45C on a coolermaster HSF
of course i also have a chipset fan (*cough....abit....kt7....cough*) and an intake & exhaust fan, but still........ 🙂

ive gotten mine to 750 so far w/pencil trick, but ive heard claims of 1150 with pencil (imagine what a conductive pen could do!!!!)

i guess it all depends on LUCK 🙂

but im happy that i got a 750 (so far) CPU for $65

I have had good luck so far with duron oc. The first chip I got hit 1 ghz with 1.625 voltage with the coolermaster heatsink. very stable too with temp never above 36.
The other duron is also stable @ 1ghz but at 1.85 volts, still the temps are not above 40. for this I tried the alpha 6035 and I didn't see any performance increase over the coolermaster..
Still other chip can go upto 970 but is stable only at 950. It actually posts at 1 ghz but windows gives error while booting..
Having said this.. I am selling the last chip+coolermaster heatsink I am looking to get 110 including shipping or if you have GEFORCE MX to trade...I have posted this in sale forum but not many responses so far
btw, I don't think you will get more juice out of the cpu by using the conductive pen instead of pencil. It's just a matter of getting current across that gap..

im still trying to figure out how to overclock it. i bought a 600 for 90 dollars locally because i couldn't wait that long to get it online (stupid) but i want more mhz out off it!
