would i be better off keeping a 700 athlon classic on a fic sd-11 or getting a duron 700 on a kt133? what speed duron would i need to get around the same performance of the athlon classics?

A duron is about 5% slower than a Classic Athlon at the same clock speed, so that would be a downgrade. If you do upgrade, go for a T-Bird, they're so cheap now...

I thought a Duron would be faster than an Athlon "classic" since it has on die L2 cache.

no, at the same clock speed, it goes like this (approximately):

T-Bird
(-5%)
Athlon Classic
(-5%)
Duron

any reason for the duron since a 1.4 Ghz Tbird +ESC K75A+ 512 DDR is ~= $220? kt133 is a dead platform and IMO any upgrades should be to DDR simply because is as cheap as SDRAM and new memory would only cost 80.
