Hi all: I was all hotset to buy a 700 Mhz Duron and
Abit KT7 Mainboard when I read that 100MHZ memory will not work in the Duron. Is this true? Will only 133MHZ memory work? If the Duron is out for 100 MHZ memory, will the celeron use it?
On a related note, I have been going bonkers searching for the best price on cpu, mainboard, case and a quality cooling fan. Seems like every place I check has a good price on one and a bad price on something else. I hate to order from diff places, and pay shipping too differant companies.
AnAndTech meantions a microstar k7tpro2 that has 5 pci and 1 isa slot. I cant find this board anyplace. Is such an animal out there? I wanted the 1 mhz speed change features, but also wanted an isa slot.

100mhz memory will work. You'll get better performance from the 133 though.

pc100(some cheap generic stuff may not work) ram works fine with the new moherboards that support the duron chip. ALL athlon motherboards are 100mhz(200mhz effective) FSB boards. For instance the abit kt7 mainboard allows you to choose the clock speed for the memory 100(fsb clock) or 133(fsb clock + pci).

pc100 mem will work, the durons are not pc133 only...

PC100 will work fine, but you'll have to decide for either 100 or 133 Mhz. So if you buy 100 Mhz DIMMs now, you'll be limited to 100 Mhz in case you're upgrading in, say, half a year. (To avoid confusion: Of course 133Mhz-rated SDRAM will work too, but you'll have to underclock it to 100 Mhz if you intend to run both the old 100 Mhz and the new 133 Mhz RAM at the same time.)

On the mobo issue, the Pro2 is still very new. You should be able to buy it in a couple of days. There's also an exact date floating around, but I don't remember that right now.
