OK, I've been stupid, but please help!

I thought I had a 1.1GHz Athlon in my machine, but it is in fact a 1.1GHz Duron (duh!). My mobo (an ECS K7S5A) supports Athlon's upto 1.4GHz but Durons only upto 950MHz. Is it ok to run the processor in the mobo for now even tho it isn't supposed to support it? This will be until I can upgrade it.

TIA for any help :)

Well, I would say if it was hurting it.. You wouldn't be able to use your computer if there was a conflict there between your mobo and cpu.

When that first came out the Duron 950 was probably the biggest they had out. As if you look here you will see it will hold up to and including the AMD XP CPU's. You're fine as your mobo runs that Duron chip just fine.

There might be a BIOS update to the board so that it will correctly report the higher speed duron. I wouldn't worry about it though.

I'm not sure if it has support for the 2200+, but I've been running on a 1600+ for a couple months now. You may just need to flash the BIOS to get it to work with a 2200+
