Duron Cooling systems

I'm about to buy a Duron supposedly @1000 with an abit kt7. Originally, I was going to go for the Super Orb but Overclockerz Store (i know their reputation, but i'm going to risk it) told me that it is only a mediocre cooling system, and they recommended their Monster 2 Cooling system with a Comair Fan. I've never heard of this setup, but the guy said it's relatively quiet and a good performer. Anyone know anything about this? I just read a recent Anandtech article recommending the Alpha 6035 with Sayno fan. What should I go for? My primary concern is noise, and of course processor function.
 
They're just trying to get you to buy their stuff. While I don't think the Super Orb is going to perform very well, the best thing to do is buy your own new fans..

They want to sell you something. It may be good, but if the only reccomendation is coming from them, be weary.
 
Be VARY wary of the Anandtech Heatsink Review. It clearly is not done properly(if it was, the c-orb should have been running at 57C)

I currently have a D700 running stable at 1083MHz on a KT7 mobo with a Cooler Master DP5-6H11 Heatsink/Fan. Before this cpu I had a D600 stable at 900MHz on the same setup.
 
I'm using a GlobalWin FOP32-1 HSF on my 650 Duron @ 824 right now and I'm doing just fine.

OR you would go for the FOP38 if you don't mind the noise.
 
vp0, I JUST bought (like last week) a Duron unlocked @ 1000, a KT7, and an Alpha6035 from The Overclockerz Store. It's running at 1000 right now as you can see. I don't know if my temps are correct but the bios is reporting 28C.

One word of caution though, I tried to call them after I placed the order to change my MB to a KT7-RAID but after 3 messages they didn't call back. I replied to the order confirmation and it just kept bouncing back. Finally I found the correct email address (sales@ocz.safeshopper.com) on their contact page. By then it was too late.
 
You can get a decent TAISOL heatsink/fan from taisol.com. I think they run like $15.00. And I think they got a very good review on Anandtech.

 
I'm not even sure if the ORB will fit on the KT7. Most ORBs have fins that get into the way of the capacitors. There is one Chrome ORB that fits without hacking the fins, but I think Thermaltake just can't do a really good socket A hsf. The new Taisol CGK742092 is the best IMHO. Anands review is about the only one that shows otherwise. Just watch where you buy it. Nerdsbyte seerms to have the lowest prices and they offer fan upgrades if you like the sound of jets with you OCing.

FOP38 is very loud. If u listen to MP3 quite a lot, it will affect your listening pleasure. Even playing games, u have to turn up the speaker quite a bit to tone down the fan noise. I would go for a lower noise fan.

The thing is, get a good ventilated case as suggested at AMD's website. 2 case fans is the minimum. One at the bottom of the case (front) sucking the cool air in. The other, at the rear and almost near the CPU, blowing the hot air out. When the temperature environment around the CPU is cooler, the heat sink works even better. A noisy high RPM fan won't do any better if all it does is blowing more hot air onto the CPU. I.e, if u can get the hot air around the CPU to purge out of the case fast, a lower RPM HSF will be good to cool down the CPU.

I regret getting the FOP38. I think, I'll just change the fan to a less noisy one, and get a good ventilated case.
 
wow. crazy. this kind of remind me of a exhaust fan i saw on an add just yesterday. it was a 5&quot; blade fan moving an astronoushing 225cfm!😀 just think about the cooling! i doubtlessly think this will do wonder on your pc, but think of the unbearable noise. 🙁
