Hi,

just building up a system for my sister where I ordered a new Duron 950 (Spitfire) - as I'm not sure if the ordered MB will support the Morgans (Elitegroup K7SEM - according to the website one revision does support the Morgans, the other doesn't). Since this processor is enough for her needs - WWW, Word, Winamp (Hmmm, a 3W) I don't see a need to overclock it, but I really would like to try it. BTW, I know this MB is not the best one for OC. RAM will be PC133 256MB. Doesn't need to be at CL2 at all. As I said before it is 3W.

So, what is your experience with this processor or a similar one (the 900 is still selling)?
What's the chance of hitting 1260 MHz (9,5x133)?

So much for now, thanks for your help.

I have overclocked a bunch of spitfire core Durons, anywhere from 650 to 850MHz cpu's. The fastest I saw was a 750 that hit 1133MHz at 2.05v. Your not gonna reach 1260MHz, especially with limited overclocking options. The average overclock for a spitfire Duron was about 1050MHz for me. Remember, the Duron had aluminum interconnects, not copper like the thunderbird which could hit up to 1500MHz or more. If your board has a 112MHz fsb speed than 1064MHz is gonna be a reasonable goal to expect. To get this you will need to bump the core voltage to 1.85v, which you can do by closing all the L7 bridges if your motherboard doesn't have adjustments. If you don't have a 112MHz fsb speed available, then the only other option is to alter the bridges physically to change the multiplier to 10 or 10.5, since I am pretty sure your motherboard doesn't support multiplier adjustments.

Yes, the motherboard does support Morgans and XP's. On pricewatch the Duron 1.3GHz is only $2 more than the 950MHz at $31 shipped. Or the 1700+ is only $52 shipped, you wouldn't have to overclock either and still get much more performance than the 950MHz. I would send the 950 back, even if it costs a few bucks.

Be sure the mbrd supports it 1st though;)

Btw I have had some limited experience overclocking the Morgan Durons ,I had a 1.1GHz which would do 1233MHz & no more ,I also had a 1.2GHz which wouldn't overclokc beyond 1310MHz ,though I guess it could of gone a little higher with some serious hardcore cooling! ;)

Don't expect much more than 1Ghz out of the old Spitfire Durons ,no chance of hitting 1260MHz without liquid cooling

yeah spitfires top out at 1g

i got a morgan 1gigahertz, its oced just fine, 1ghz @1.33ghz (133fsb) it pretty quick too, (i think morgans have sse enabled)

only took 1.78 volts (thats what it says in mbm cause i didn't increase the voltage)

check out my home entertainment rig in my sig.

btw i got the chip off somone on AT for $30, not a bad investment

Thanks for your help.

Just rechecked the downloadable User manual for the mainboard, and it seems that there are no Voltage and multiplier adjustments (I thought, that maybe 7,5x133=1000MHz would be better - compared to the 9,5x100=950MHz), and this still could (should) work with default voltage. No mention of other BUS frequencies than 66, 100 and 133 MHz, either. Still I have to see the whole system "In vivo" and will know better then. BTW, I'm in Croatia, and my sister is living in Germany. Going there over Christmas, so I'm not thinking of sending back any of the components, as those have been ordered online and they are sitting there. However, it would very hard for me to explain my parents and my sister what they should send back, and why...

However, it doesn't matter since this will be a great upgrade for my sister (from Celeron 333, 128MB, 8GB hard - to Duron 950, 256MB, 30 GB hard). I will take the Celeron box home and try to play with it (it's a Slot 1, and they say I can be happy if I can get 500MHz out of it). Then this should become my wifes box.

For dannybin1742:

Nice "monitor" you have got (in the etertainment rig) - how does this work?

If you don't have multiplier adjustments you could always alter the default(bootup) mulitplier by altering the L3 & L4 bridges:)
