Duron 800 o/c w/ FIC AZ11e combo, read lots but no concensus

Hi all, newbie here. First off I've already found a lot of great info here, thanks.

I have a Duron 800CPU (bought Dec/00) and FIC AZ11e Mboard. I finally got around to buying a silver pen (micro tip) to connect my L1 bridges. Pen tip turned out to be far from 'micro' but got it done without shorting anything (now I see tips here on using a needle, good tip!:). Fired it back up and ran fine. Then made my first adjustment with the overclocking utility and it would fire up/show my altered speed (816, set my bus at 102 in overclocking utility) but would freeze right after this. alter setting to 100/800 and it would run fine, nothing above that though. I've read many site's including the one John C is reccomending and I don't see a consensus for what all chip mods are required for me to o/c with this setup. I'm quite certain I effectively connected my L1 bridges but may have erred(any way to verify?)....are their any other bridges I have to cross? My AZ11e info had stated stepless frequency and voltage control online etc. In my mboard manual it says 'Frequency/Voltage control' but only desrives CPU/PCI clock frequency control via their options. My bios does give me frequency options but nothing on voltage is visible.

anyone more familiar with this board? (can't find reviews anywhere on it, the Japan/English is an older version of my board) or just know what I'm missing.

FWIW, this was the first time I've built my own system which I enjoyed and would like to nail down this o/c with this setup so thanks in advance for any help;)

So far all's you've done is up the FSB a couple MHz. It's possible that something on your board can't go out of spec(memory, video, etc.). The purpose of closing the L1 bridges is so you can up the CPU multiplier. If you can take your 800 to 900 by changeing the X8 to X9, you're on your way. I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the AZ11's. Last FIC board I had was a 503+.

I don't have this mobo but it has been reviewed as very good. Even though this is a second geberation FIC, it still uses the KT133 chipset, so overclocking FSB is not much of an option. Upping the multiplier is the way to go. Not sure if this is done by dip switches or BIOS. You will almost certainly need to increase the default cpu voltage to 1.8v to get decent results, this could also be controlled by dips. Try seraching the net, I've seen a couple of reviews that might have some more info.

Thanks for the reply's, the bios does not have any 'multiplier' adjustment, just the frequency control. I read at socketa.com on the AZ11e review that a .025 voltage bump via bios gave them 1000Mhz. My board was packaged as AZ11 as was the Mboard book but I was told (reliable wholesale supplier I have access to locally) it was the AZ11e (how can I confirm this physically?). On the average board what is the standard voltage control/unlocking procedure? CPU mods required?

Hmm, mid reply I grabbed the AZ11e mboard manual from fic site and it's v. different from my AZ11 labelled one...gotta yank this board and look for these jumpers and dips it shows.....FIRST though...can I 'jump' to 1000Mhz?? I'd prefer to minimize board/case ins and outs, not sure how much I have to disassemble to get at these 'dips' (assuming I have them!).

thanks

Oops, sorry for wasting everyone's time. Turned out I was given an AZ11, no 'e' at all!! So I'll sell it and pick a new one...the AZ11e settings are all via DIP switches for multiplier etc so I'll likely look to the abit K7Ta with KT133a and 266FSB...but I'm green on if I can truly benefit from those features with my Duron800 CPU (may sell it with board and get an Athlon 800 at recent price drops..not sure yet).

Anyhow, thanks for the feedback I did get.
