My cpu temp seems to stay around 50C and i wonder if that is ok?
I´m using a super orb to cool it.

well, my results have been quite interesting to say the least

I just built a Duron 800 + MSI K7T Pro2a system, and overclocked it to 1-Gig.

My goal is to maintain 1-Gig while lowering voltage as low as possible.

I just got done running RC5 with my case closed for 5 hours, and my temp maintained 45-46 Celsius. What is weird is that the thing idles @ 40ish with a FOP32.

Now....my chassis temp didn't get above 35, (32, actually), so I"m not sure what to think.

That "idle" temp seems kinda high, but then under load, 45-46 really seems like no big deal.

Mikewarrior? Thoughts? Is RC5 just not stressing things enough?

I ran Q3 demo for a hour or so and it raised the temp to about 60C...
but about a minute after it was down to 55 again...hmmm should probably try to lower the voltage a little..it´s at 1,85V now

one thing, the super orbs tend to really malf up temp readings(10-15C too low when using either orb cooler).

SO your temps are on hte definate warm side of things. I would look at adding some extra case cooling to your setup.

Yeah, add some case cooling... Definately need good/extra airflow for athlon/t-bird/duron setups...

Ok I thought about getting a new HSF,any recommendations?
And add more cooling to the case.
(sorry if my english is not so good I´m from Sweden)

Hmm... if you really want to get a new heatsink, i'd look at any of the taisol's. THe CGK742 is fairly inexpensive for the amount of performance.

Secondly, i think you'll get more from case cooling than you will from changing the heatsink. the cooler your case ambient temperature is the cooler the cpu.

Check out this danish website (Jeg er fra Danmark) http://www.webconsult.dk

They have a cooler called "Silverado" They claim, that it's capable of removing 100 Watts from your CPU.

Your sincerely, DanishGuy

silverado's manufacturer rated efficiency is .61C/W. For a 1ghz chip, that means running it at near 30C over ambient.

For an FOP38, with a rated efficiency of .37C/W, it would mean a temp of around 20C over ambient case temp.

I don't see why noisecontrol would rate their heatsink higher than actual, but its possible.

I have checked my casetemp now 35C so as I understand 55-60C(20-25 over casetemp) is normal
so down with the casetemp and it should be ok.

MW2:

Yet again, I can only tell you what I've read on their homepage....

But the great thing about it is the noise level, not very high!

I added 2 80mm casefans (one in+one out) and now it idles at 46C and after 30mins of Q3 demo 50C
seems better now =)

Blackwolf, that is a bit better. ;)

DanishGuy,

That is also what I find from their web-page. Possibly some selective advertising? IT isn't too hard to make a heatsink that seems good considering that msot websites use socket a boards to test.(hence the Chrome orb looks like a killer heatsink).

MikeWarrior2:

Happy New Year!

Well, as long as it will cool my new 1 GHz T-bird without overclocking I'm satisfied for now.
I'm going for low noise solutions, so I've bought only Noise Control products so far.

Right now I've only got a Celeron 1 Slot 1 333@416, but I have ordered the new stuff. :D

Hi again Mike...

I just checked Webconsult's homepage again, here are their ratings:

Silent .63 C/Watt | 15 m³/hour (CFM?) | 1300 RPM
Normal .50 C/Watt | 21 m³/hour (CFM?) | 1800 RPM
Turbo .40 C/Watt | 36 m³/hour (CFM?) | 3100 RPM

Sonogram of Noise (German)

It's still higher than the FOP38, but it should work perfectly at normal mode, right? (1 GHz@1 GHz)

The normal and turbo models "should" not have problems with a 1gig t-bird. The silent is pushign it, as the CPU Core temp would be around 34-35C over ambient case temp under load.

I have a Duron 700 at 900 right now (won't quite do 950 at 1.85. I soon will do voltage mod and try for a gig.) on an A7V. I am useing the FOP-38 and my idle temp is about 32 Degrees while my full load temp is about 36 degrees. I highly recommend the Fop-38 if you can take the noise.
