duron 700 and other related weird issues =P

hi everyone,

I need some ideas/suggestion on these couple of issues, this is my first post, i've been a reader but i haven't posted b4. Any ideas would be of great help so i say thanks ahead of time.

here's my sitution : i got a duron 700 from buy.com. I just got a ABIT-KTX-RAID m/b. I've gotten the duron on the m/b, now i'm curious about overclocking possiblities.

W/ the softmenu, i can actually change the multiplier/fsb speed. It seems to both give out at 800mhz@8*100/840@7*120. I've read anand's reviews and i thought durons can be overclocked higher than that? Or do i have to do the pen job on the cpu even though softmenu lets me change the speed already?

And another thing.. whats does the "CPU FSB PLUS" function do on the abit m/b menu? and how does that work?

Read the manul...it will tells you what the functions in the bios are for...

as far as oc your duron...i assume it's a retail one...and it has it's own crappy retail fan right?? if that's the case..you might be expericing heat problem...it's not recommanded to oc with retail fan
and it's dangerous to take out the retail fan too b/c the amd cpu has really fagile die...

you also need to check if your duron is multipier locked...by looking at the L1 bridge on the cpu..(might be impossible b/c the retail fan)
and in order to get duron oc at 800/850/900/950..etc..voltage needed to be raise from default 1.5v...but again...crappy retail fan can't handle the heat...
