I am running a Duron 650@950. I also have 64MB PC100 and a V3 2000 AGP.

When I got the Duron running at 950 I was expecting UT to not pause like it did when I had my K6-III. It only does it at the beginning of gameplay but it still bugs me.

What is causing it, and what can I do to eliminate it. UT runs best with 3dfx cards so I doubt if it's the video. I was thinking of upgrading to GF2 MX card for $100 anyway so what do you think?

Thanks

What resolution are you running it at? ,if you're at 800x600 thats about the limit with 64Mb RAM.If you go higher you'll cause swap file activity giving you game pauses
Rather than get another vid card you'd be better off getting more RAM

Your 64 megs of ram is definitely what is slowing you down. UT especially is very CPU and memory dependent. You wont really see a performance boost until you put some more ram in your system, regardless of what res you run at. I would go up to 128 megs at least and then worry about the video card.

I get the pausing at 800x600 and 1024x768. Like I said it's not too bad. I just didn't expect it with my new OC'd Duron, but what do I know? :) I guess more, faster memory is in order.

I just found an OC util for my V3 2000. I will use that until I can get more memory. Eventually I am going to get a new video card, too.

I hope this V3 OC util works well. Don't really know how high to OC this thing just yet. I have it set to 155 for now. I'm not going to muck with it until I can put a fan on it.

Thanks.

LIke i said before your not gona see any gain in performance untill you put more ram in your stystem. You could have a voodoo5 6000 and you would hardly see any benifit from it as you system is now. btw, in the latest drivers for the voodoo3 there is a OC util built in, however you have to unlock it in the regestry.

Could you post alink for that V3 registy edit please ?

as operandi said ,you could overclock you vid card & cpu to 100% but you won't gain any performance if your PC has to write to the HDD mid game because of insufficient quantity of RAM.
Buy some more RAM before you buy anything else ,your V3 is perfectly adequate :)
