Duron 600 Overclock King?

Why is it that I see so many people hitting 1ghz with Duron 600 and 650s and people with Duron 800s and Tbird 850s are struggling to make it? Is it just the headroom in the lower chips?

I am curious too. I am slowly pushing my Duron 600 to 1Ghz (at 945 now). But I see people talking about their FOP32's and PAL 6035's and their extra case fans and their 750 is clocked to 850. Are they conservative or is the 600 special?

They might have a good chip and good cooling. I saw one person that had their Duron 600 @ 1300mhz.

I think I heard that it's because all the cores are the same.. they are just rated at different speeds.. depending on how well the manufacturing process goes.. (correct me if I'm wrong).. so for that given core.. there is a max that it can be pushed to.. so say it's 1 gig.. that's (generally) the cap.. this is just what I've put together based on what I've heard.. I wish someone would back me up, or correct me though.. I would like to know exactly what's goin on with that too.

I have my Duron 600@1020MHZ with a FOP-32. All I can say is, it rocks!

I agree with smp...I think that if you get the process down pat, that you must still provide ALL the different CPUs you can to fill the needs....hence the nice OCn on the 600.

My Duron600 is running at 10x105 for 1050...not bad.

But I do have the taisol742 w/27cfm fan, lapped with 2000 grit, and Arctic Silver with 1.9v....

Never seems to get hotter than 93f.

I've got a Duron 600@1050 (105X10) and it has been running perfectly for me with my Taisol CGK742. I hope to get Arctic Silver soon, and try to raise the mhz some more.

What is the fastest FSB a Duron can do? Can it hit 133+ or is it limited to the 100+ ranges? Looking to upgrade soon and trying to decide between a Duron and a TBird, as well as what speed. Probably will run it on an IWill KK266 mb.

It's generally the week in which the CPU was made that determines which 600's will hit 1 GHz and which 600's won't. This page has a table showing which Durons are better at overclocking than others:

The chips that were produced during the later weeks apparently do better at overclocking than ones that were produced very early.

If you have a KT133A chipset, most Durons should be able to hit 133 fairly easily. (You may have to lower the multiplier to achieve this however.
