Duron 600, A7V problem after overclock?

2 of my friend have duron 600, Asus A7v m/b, bios 1002
1)600 to 700 1.65v cheap hs+f, works fine for two weeks
2)600 to 800 6X133 a bigger hs+f, works fine for two weeks

Now both have problems, both can bootup windows but freeze after a while, even if runs @600 try reinstall os, runs at default voltage same thing happens. What is the chances of a fried cpu or defective A7V.
wondering if anybody have this problem or can help solving this???

Some guys have had suspend or "sleep" issues, especially when surfng and they ignore the puter and later try and wake it from hibernation. Try updating the bios to 1003. I have my Duron 600@900 and had a few issues with the det 3 drivers and the 1004a bios. I flashed back to the 1003 and the 5.22 nvidia drivers; so far so good. It hasn't locked up for no good reason with those goofy green vertical lines at the top of the screen. I'm running 38C at idle and 47C to 54C under full load. Full load temp varies by how hot it is in this room... How toasty are you guys getting? Also, how long is your boot up? I'm close to 2 minutes guessing, but I haven't timed it. I know the ata100 is part of the cause and unavoidable. What was weird though was when I had my other drive on the primary IDE (along with my ata100 drive on its port) I forgot to disable it under bootup and it booted off of it like a champ. Later when I popped my IBM 75gxp onto the primary IDE and disabled ata100 it still booted like sh#t. weird.

If that is a bios issue, how come it works fine for the last two week.

Hmm... Looks like you and I have a similar setup. I've been running my system for about two weeks, and your story is giving me the willies!

OK. Enough of that. I'm assuming that you are using the pencil trick to do the OC. You can try to redo the bridges on the CPU and see if that helps. There have been reports that that solves the problems for some people.

Another thing: What were the temperatures that you were getting? On the cheap HSF, there may be some worry that the heat might have gotten to it, although that seems doubtful unless the HSF was improperly mounted. For the 800, 133MHz for the KT133 seems a bit fast. I know that the ABit board has a fan for the chipset even for running at the default 100MHz. 133MHz might raise some heat issues with the mobo.

Also, are you using the computers for the same applications? The reason for my asking is if you have started doing some other tasks (such as gameplaying), there may also be the risk that the drivers are not cooperating. Updating drivers would definitely help if this were the case.

it is an unlocked cpu, temp between 49 to 60c, should be acceptable
freeze when you close one program to start another, or surfing the internet.
for what i know if the cpu is fried, the computer should not boot. if that is a bios issue, we should have this problem right from the beginning, not after two weeks.
so anybody can explain this to me?

There is also the possibilty that the processor was only partially damaged. I think I did this to my dad's comp. I was trying to see how far I could push the Celeron 433. I got it pretty far before I noticed the obscenely high temperature. It would not run above 433 ever agin .

As for the temperature readings you are getting. They seem pretty high. The Duron should only be able to take about 68C max. And this is the core temperature I'm talking about, not the external reading. Was the 60C temp off the 700MHz OC with cheap HSF?
