I'm very encouraged by what I see so far. I'm running an ECS K7S5A with a Duron 1200 and 256MB of Crucial PC2100. The bus speeds are 100 for the cpu and 133 for Ram and the Ram is running on 'Normal' Settings in the ECS Bios. I am 75% of the way through a 5.489 AR WU and SetiDriver estimates the total time to be 4:57! :)

I realize this is a higher range WU than many, but I think lower AR WU's would still be completed in respectable times. I'll leave it running for a couple of days and post more results.

Pretty good times. Have you considered unlocking the CPU, then changing it to run at 133FSB instead of 100? That should really take some time off those WUs.

On the K7S5A, it does not run very nicely when the memory and FSB are different speeds. It might be better if you run it at 100/100, or see if it will do 133/133 :)

Other than that it's not too bad a time!:)

this is quite true. you might do better 100/100. ezpecially if you can run faster memory timings.;)

of course you can run "CPUCool" and play around with the fsb also.:) altho I have no idea how much you want to play around with oc'n. but the k7s5a(and many other mb's) definately like to have thier fsb/mem run in sync.

I'm getting ready to downgrade my k7s5a to a duron 1.0 soon so I'm intrested to know what to expect and how to get the best performance.;):) I'm "downgrading" my k7s5a to move my 1600xp to a msi mb that will also be doing a little seti work.:D WUUhoo!!

Sounds good:) ,let us know the WU times when you've done a few more ,I'd be particularly interested to know how fast it does 0.417 WU's.

I use cpufsb with my K7S5A. There are tons of FSB and memory speeds to try. You can try running the FSB and RAM at 107 for a very minor and stable overclock. There are also FSB/Memory settings at 103, 110, and 112 settings. I doubt there's any chance of getting it to 133!

Yah, I've messed around with cpufsb on some of my other K7S5A's with reasonable success.

The Duron has done 5 WU's - i'll post times later but i do remember that it did a 0.417 AR WU in 5:34

I changed the memory bus speed to 100 and I'll see how that does.

I just tried to post a rant about ncix.com and how they screwed me with this cpu but i lost it somehow...:(

I'll redo that later.

I don't want to unlock this one for a couple of reasons - 1) it belongs to a friend 2)quite a few pins were bent upon delivery so I don't want to remove the cpu and 3) (i know i said 2) - i don't want to remove the mobo to remove the hsf.
