<< I'm interested in your decision to spend the money for a CPU Abit says, in every way possible, the KT7A won't support. What made you decide, and which bios are you using? >>

I had no problem overclocking the Morgan Duron on my KT7, my KT7E or in my Epox 8K7A.

Version 1.3 of the KT7A with Bios rev 65 supports the Morgan/Palomino/XP chips so the decision was easy when newegg had this board for $49.
I used 3dmark 2001se as the basis for determining what FSB/multiplier combo was the fastest. For example:

9x133=4030 3dmark points
8x145=4205 3dmark points

all other factors remained the same...ie video card speed, memory timings, etc

I know 3dmark is a synthetic benchmark and used mostly for gamers and posers use it to gage penis size, but I think for comparing drivers, tweaks, etc on the same system is is a useful tool.

I mostly use my rig for gaming and the increase in frames per second, and overall smoothness is definately noticeable

Gotey: You said the magic words: "Version 1.3 of the KT7A..." You were right to go for it. Alas, I got one of the first -- version 1.0 -- so the Duron 1000 is out for me. Think I'll go the Athlon 1.33 or 1.4.

Hey Timmers,
From what I understand, the Morgan/Palomino/Xp will work on the earlier versions with a bios upgrade. Abit will not officially say it works because sometimes the system will hang after posting and you have to reset, then it works fine

check out this website for practically all the info you will ever need about the board

good luck Timmers
