I need your help fellow Anantechers. I am getting a Duron 1.3 GHz to updgrade the system. The original idea was to share the machine with my wife, but after all the pain with the peripherials and "space invasion" by her I decided I will build another one for me.

This leaves this system to be used by my wife only. After I install the CPU, I will remove some stuff and I will leave only the basic for her. The case is mATX. My power supply right now is 300 W, but I have a 250 spare that I want to use here. The 250 W is rated at 120 W max in the combo 3.3/5 V.

Here is what will go in the system:

- Duron 1.3 GHz, retail HSF.
- Maxtor D740X - 40 GB (ATA 133, 7200 RPM)
- GeForce2 MX
- Floppy
- AOpen 12x10x32
- ATI DV wonder, PCI firewire.

The motherboard is a KT133, mATX, LAN integrated and AMR modem.

I think the 250 Watts should be enough. Do you agree???

Well, the Duron recommended PSU list goes up to the 1.2ghz chip and on the list is an Aopen 250w PSU with combined output of 150w(for ATX) so it seems reasonable that since your using an mATX board that you should be fine with that set-up.

I would say it depends on the quality of the ps but it should be fine. I have a 1.2 duron with pretty much the same components as you on a 200 watt uatx supply.

Thanks guys. It surely helps. I tried it, and the system works fine. I don't see a noticeable speed increment in the basic stuff (web browsing, e- mail, etc). But when I start encoding MPEG2 with TMPGEnc or divX then I am almost at twice the framerate over my Duron 700..... My motherboard is crappy, but my wife couldn't care less about DDR or Sis 735.... She just wants the computer to work, no crashes, modem working, word processing and some light photo editing.
