During World War II....

I believe that the WW1 was referred to as the "Great War". When WW2 came along it was known as the "Second World War" - which made the "Great War" "merely" the "First World War".

dont know, but they call it "the great patriotic war" in russia (well, all of the states that were part of the sojuz at the time, i guess)
