During Superbowl half-time, did Prince mean to show his symbol?

91TTZ had sorta alluded to it on another thread, but did anyone else catch this while watching Prince's performance?

In the sensitive post-wardrobe malfunction world, some are questioning whether a guitar was just a guitar during Prince's Super Bowl halftime show.

Prince's acclaimed performance included a guitar solo during the "Purple Rain" segment of his medley in which his shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. As the 48-year-old rock star let rip, the silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar (shaped like the singer's symbol) had phallic connotations for some.

A number of bloggers have decried "Malfunction!" - including Sam Anderson at New York magazine's Daily Intelligencer. Daily News television critic David Bianculli called it "a rude-looking shadow show" that "looked embarrassingly rude, crude and unfortunately placed."

Good for him if he actually meant it to appear as such. Honestly I didn't notice during the show. It was either too brief or just didn't look like he was purposefully "posing" with the guitar. Whatever. I'm so sick of all this nonsense anyway. I'm sure there are idiots out there who TiVo'd the show and are meticulously frame-by-frame-ing to make sure his performance was kosher. :p

i thought of that when I saw the shadow live... but instantly thought, I doubt he purposely did it, since thats something a lot of people don't do after high-school immaturity wears off.
then again, this is Prince we are talking about... and he is quite the strange character.

Actually, that silhouette kind of looks like the Grinch with a hard-on, and a harpoon sticking out of his stomach. Outrageous! I'm incensed! This will scar little Cindy Lou Who forever.

I think the people that cry about this need to stop being such 2-faces. They act like they are offend by the imagery, but they are also the 1st ones to see the imagery of a penis. Why is that? Do they think about penises all day and can immidiately pick out a phallic reference. 8===D
