hey, what does it taste like? i've never went near one because of the smell. what would it taste like if you pinched your nose shut?

it took me a long time to finally get into it. i still think it reeks, but it doesnt bother me really. i guess its one of those developed tastes. it's actually quite sweet and tasty, but the smell alone keeps me from eating it often.

so i am going to try durian tonight for the first time. has anyone eaten durian before?

from the wiki:

"... its odor is best described as pig-sh1t, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away."

ive been around it my whole life, but have never tasted it. My family eats it every once in a while but ive never had the balls to give it a try... i just cant stand the smell

Ditto.

the durian experience didnt go so well. the gag reflex kicked in so i couldnt really eat it. i would say the wiki quote describes it well:

"... its odor is best described as pig-sh1t, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away."

there were around 8 of us trying it and most people either liked it or didnt mind it. to me the smell and taste were exactly the same. i did like the custardy texture though.

BRAIN FEVER!

I had it the same evening I had Balut, I was too drunk to remember, but I didn't hurl. Others did. It wasn't pretty.

Anthony Bourdain's worst meal ever was Warthog Rectum. He's a brave man with a cast iron stomach.

I ate some in my Southeast Asia class in college. Smelled like gym socks left on a gym floor for a week, tasted like stewed onions, and had the consisteny of raw chicken.

It's popular in the Asian community. The smell is bad, but when you eat it, it's a lot better.
