Durian Fruit

Uh oh...this isn't going to be pretty. I was scarred as a child, as my mother cracked a bad one open in the hotel room and we couldn't get the stench out for the entirety of our stay.

It's gonna be a while before I try again 🙂

yes, the smell will be very strong to someone who isn't used to it.
i'm not a fan, but it doesn't really bother me.

DaWhim, usually you can find it in your local Asian food stores.

not around here, I believe.
I heard a story about a chinese guy brought them onto a subway in nyc... LOL 😉

they look like this: Durian Picture

they definitely stink, can smell 'em like 5 aisles over at the local hong kong supermarket in arlington.

funny thing is i dont think anyone buys them, they all look like theyve been there since the store opened

Yes they are great, but most of the ones found in the USA are frozen in transit. I was able to find a fresh durian in Vancouver and the flavor was much better and wasn't soggy. Same goes for jack fruit.

If you took white solid deoderant, and bit it, that is exactly what Durian tastes like.

Eating deodarant is bad for you. You should lay off that stuff.

I saw this on FoodTV not too long ago.

They are making some sort of chip with it. They say it is better than potato chips in both taste and nutrition.

I hope they genetically engineer the smell out. Then it'd be perfect!

some people actually like the smell..

they say it smells like .. mm.. ya know... female... ehmm... that thing down there... 😀

I've read about this stuff. Is the smell really that obnoxious? And, if so, why is it so damn popular? The taste must be exquisite!

The smell is horrible, but I haven't tasted it.

It smells like puke thats been ripening in the sun for a few days...........

Taste is eh.......it's good (like custard) but IMO not worth the hassle of smelling the damn thing.

Try Jack fruit, it is not stinky and in the same family.

it is pretty good 🙂

didnyt kno they where in the same family :Q

i miss the green mangos in thailand. man i cant find those here 🙁

There's also Bread fruit, similar to Jack fruit. But I've never had it before.

I problem I have with Jack fruit is that it makes my hands sticky after handling it. But it taste quit good. the flavor is like custard, while the texture is like onion.

It's probably the closest thing to eating poopoo without actually doing it :disgust:

I used to be afraid of walking into a durian plantation. I was sure one of those damned things would fall on my head. Actually, I still am . . .
