I just bought a new 120 GIG HD, and I don't want to reinstall windows etc. I want to duplicate my current hard drive so that the new drive will boot up exactly as my current one does with all of my programs etc. Is there any freeware software which I can use? all of the stuff I have found needs to be paid for.

Thanks,
Aaron

Maxtor Maxblast can copy data. Make your partitions first and then copy over. If the 120 was a Maxtor and was retail, the software is included. If you don't have Maxblast you can download it for free (it works with other brand drives too).

Data Lifeguard for Western Digital .
Maxblast for Maxtor.
Don't know about IBM or seagate but the ones above can be downloaded from the respective websites.

Exactly, each HD manufacture provides free software that will make an exact copy of a HD, if it were me i would just backup some stuff to some CD-R's and freshinstall anyway.

btw i hate ur 3dmark scores fredtam :(

Not wanting to hijack a thread but shouldn't your memory clock be around 361 or did you start to artifact? Not that 3DMark scores mean that much but if I would drop the core clock down to where I could run a synchronous memory clock and see what happened or just raise the mem. clock to 361 and see if it passes 3Dmark with no artifacting.

I use the Ghost bootable floppy also. I made a image of the main drive after I installed XP with all the patches installed. It makes it alot more easy to restore my system that way. Only thing I got to reinstall is my programs and games. Which is not really a big deal for me.

yeah, if you do a fresh install your comp will run so much faster. but if your not willing to go that route each maunfacturer has their own free apps for disk coping/testing....

Exactly. I make Ghost copy of the OS and keep it in a box in case I ever want to reformat, saves alot of downtime ;)
