Read the PCG review. There's a code for the Beta in it as well. Bleh. Man, this entire game will be instance based. Nothing at all even pretenting to look halfway like anything related to innovative. Sounds like a PvE-only Guild Wars.

Doin't forget that Turbine will also be putting LOTR Online next year or so. Holy chopshop, Batman!

I hate to be anal, but that was a preview...not a review. Also, that code isnt a sure shot into the beta -it was a lottery (that I didnt win either :( )

Sure, but it was like a 10 page "preview" with tons of pics and details. That actually makes it worse for them since previews, including this one, are always very optimistic but even their rosey portrait of the game left me with with less than zero interest.

Yea I know...I wanted this to be a great game too. :(

This is the kind of expert analysis we get from guys who've only played WoW.

Well, he stated it was his opinion, so I am not sure why you are making a mockery of him.... You should quote his entire post, otherwise it can be misleading.

I know it's only IMHO, and others obviously feel differently... i've just never understood the big appeal to certain people for PvP in MMO's. I prefer PvE for this genre.

And I've been in the beta for DDO for the last couple of months and I have to agree with the things the previous posters wrote... I won't be paying for it at release though it does have appeal to the hardcore Pen&Paper players.

Bolded to show that this poster was expressing an opinion, humbley, I might add.

Never hurts to try something for free and see for yourself. All the negatives could be true or just whiners. At least I'll know one way or another. :)

Hows the gameplay? More hack and slash or rpg? How long does it take to kill a group of lets say 20 monsters solo? I felt Guild wars was too slow for my taste.

I downloaded the Hi Res version, guess I'll find out whether it was worth the bandwidth or not..

They aren't full, they are closed, because they don't open until the 19th. (Hold your mouse over one and you will realize that symbol means closed).

As long as the XP is rolled into the end of the quest, I won't have an issue with that. When I played the P&P style, the monster XP was put at the end of the quest. So I hope they do the same in D&D: Online.

Hacp, from what I read, say you have a fighter who does 1d8 damage with the sword, it would take about 3-4 swings (clicky with mouse) to kill one monster which would have about 20 HP or so.

I heard there was no PvP for this game. Is this true? If so, WTF!!!

How much PvP have you experienced in table top D&D?

LOL somehow i've done it more than a few times!

Man those were really fun times though.

I have thrown a hand axe at the guy i was fighting, then the cops arrested me and put some kind of cuffs on me that blocked my powers.

IIRC, I'm not positive on this but I believe there is no exp value assigned to the monsters, only the objectives. This means that you could sneak through a dungeon only completing objectives or slash your way through and both end up with the same exp.

BUT, in certain dungeons there are bonus objectives, such as a bonus objective for killing all monsters. So if you are going to slash your way through a dungeon, you'll want to aim for this objective and get a bunch of extra exp.

The reality is that, for the most part, it is more difficult to sneak through the dungeon than it is to slash your way through it. You have to worry about light and shadows since sneaking is reliant on it / etc.

People who try DDO need to realize it, it really isn't like any MMORPG, not even guild wars.

*bump* for anyones thoughts on this.

One thing that I like about it, is when you are doing your quest the "DM" voice will come on and describe an area to you, sights, smell, the feeling you aren't the only group in the area, etc.
