I've been looking around, but I haven't found any site that tells me what I need.

Is DSII like Diablo II, where there are a handful of super coveted items (like a SoJ). Or do high level requiremment items for the most part better? I've been playing for about a week now, and I have a chest full of set, unique and rare items. But so far it's not really clear to me what is good (for any race). Some of the set itmes I have duplicates - like this hauberk from the vigilance set. looks like junk to me.

I just need to know if I should sell everything I don't need. I know it depends on the character and what I want to achieve, but alot of these special items look like junk. Sometimes the rare items are better than set items (which is like Diablo II, if i remember correctly). I used to reference diabloii.net, but there's no site like that for ds2 - maybe it's not as popular.

I had 7 high level (70 or over level/skill) unique bows/xbows by the time i finished Elite at level 81 and only 2 bow users.

Most uniques tend to be poor early on. Shop-based rares tend to be better.

In the end, I used unique and set items solely. Mixing and matching sets around to get the best out of things. On my nature mage, dropping a set item for a unique which was a bit better on its own ended up halving my damage.

High damage really early on mixed with good defence. Armour takes precedence over Resistances and Dodge unless the armour factor is relatively small. As you progress, life leech might be necessary.

Use Buffs from your nature mage. They dont really make life much easier when the game gets hard but it can certainly cut down the time you spend hacking and slashing. I used Earthen Embrace with Wrath of the Bear, switching with Life Embrace or Wrath of Ice. Wrath of the Bear was important to me since I was heavily laden with physical combat players. Debuffs can be very useful in normal and veteran where you rarely encounter much by way of resistances. In Elite, most mobs are healed by a certain type of magic so its more difficult to get the debuff/damage combo working.

Hope Ive helped.

You want the YELLOW items! These are sets and when they are completed they can be very powerful. ALso look for items that say "+1 to all skills" and stuff like that.

Just read the description very closely and keep your eyes open for the purlple and yellow items

yeah, this game is a bit screwy. I've read the drop system needs work:

1) wearing more magic find items doesn't seem to really do anything
2) you seem to get all sorts of cool drops except for the items for your character(s)

For some reason one of my quests has already been completed by someone else (per my journal), so I can't complete it. I don't understand that. I'm the only person playing - I start the room. wtf?

I also understand there are many people have problems hosting. I've forwarded all the right ports, but I can't host. From trying to join numerous games, it looks like many other people can't figure it out either. BNET port forwarding works fine, so I can only assume there's something screwy about DS2.

I dunno what the deal is with the other players either. I play with people around, or under my level (I'm an archer) and the fighters as well as both types of mages do like 30% more damage than I do. Either they're cheating, or I'm just not getting the right stuff.

Having completed the game in single player Elite included, Mages do seem to be the most powerful. My only mage, Nature mage is a dual user now and she could out damage my Ranger who has 20 in almost every skill and the Ranged Level 82 bow. The mage would only need a bit more skills in Combat Magic and some more Combat Magic Levels to do so.

Monsters tend to be drawn towards any Combat Mage casting offensive, damaging spells. They dont seem to mind being debuffed but as soon as you start unleashing your fury into them, you can be under fire quickly.

Equipment is really important for characters. In the sub 20 days, it can be really awkward to get what you need. It wasnt until the end of Normal, just before the end of the game that I found a decent Ranged weapon for my Archer and it turned her into an absolute killing machine compared to the rest of my party.

One handed melee weapons just seem in general really poor in terms of uniques and sets. There are exceptions but dont expect them to do 'much' damage.

My unspecialised 2hander barbarian was rather powerful but still couldnt match my Archer at level 75 or higher using the Fire Kings Maul.

MF items most definately do make a difference but it doesnt feel worth using it when fighting. I tested a bit with the Arena and found that out of the 5 biggest chests, an average of 3-4 extra unique/set items dropped with ~50% MF + Greater Chant of Prosperity.

I guess none boths enchanting things with the trinkets? A neat feature, but higher level finds will be what mows down the enemies?

There seems to be a problem with the search feature in the internet portal. When I narrow it down (by even by only one option like mercenary only), I find zero games.
and it pauses when people join which is annoying. and when the host leaves, and the game is over, that's annoying. i like the d2x system - I assume bnet does all the hosting.

Does this game promote item trading between players (like D2X)? Or is it just play and have fun and hope you find stuff. I think I've seen one room dedicated to trades (I went but saw no trading - it's hard when room limits are 4 people). I have a buncha random purple, yellow and light blue items that I don't need, and the only thing I can think of doing it selling them. Especially since you get better items high up anyways; so who would even want what I have except someone 5+ levels below me and if they do, they have nothing I would want.
