Dungeon Siege II and Vista

I just loaded a new install of Vista and when I try to play Multiplayer in the original or the addon (on my home LAN) no matter what username I type in I always get the same error.

<name> is already being used by another player. Please choose another one.

Any ideas what is going on here?

No firewall or Antivirus.

Are you running in XP compatibility mode & as administrator?

I had DS2 working recently on vista but after 10 minutes I realized that it wasn't that great. I then installed DS1 which doesn't work in vista, and was pissed cus it was way better than the second game.

They both work fine in Vista x64 on my PC,all I can suggest is have you updated your DX9.0C to latest version from here. .

The funny thing, is that this seems to work for other people, and I have no clue what I'm doing differently. It's like the game doesn't even want to try accepting the name I put in.

I learned about this the hard way (thanks paradox and your crappy tech support). vista doesn't install dx9 by default but some games still require it.

DX10 is not backwards compatible with other DX games? So you have to download DX9 for older games?
