I really didnt care for the first one all that much. It was trying so hard to be a 3D Diablo, and just ended up being a bit boring.

Yea.. I thought the first Dungeon Siege was also boring. No story, totally linear with barely any exploration..in fact..the road used in each stage is paved for you, characters with zero personality. All I remember is that your main character was some dumb farmer and boom..he's a warrior! I cant stand the click-tastic Diablo gameplay either..its not for me. Now I'm talking about the single player game, I have never tried it online.

I'll give part 2 a try and hope its better.

I agree. I did end up beating the game, but the equipment didn't seem to do much of anything and you didn't really get cool skills. Ended up being a poor mands Diablo with good graphics.

However, it had potential and so I am still hopeful for iteration number II.

Yea, I wasnt a huge fan of the original either, but the 2nd one is suppose to fix most of the flaws. Check out the preview. :)

the LAN aspect of the first game is great, tho the single player is ultra boring, and everything upto the inventory screens look like Diablo-wanna-be game. I didnt care for that. The quests were lame and repetative, little variety in mobs to kill ect ect. DS 2 has ALOT to make up for all the first games faults.. hopefully they will succeed in making a better sequel

Hope it's not just hack'n slash, i'm getting a bit tired of hack'n slash. Just clicking over and over and over...

Can't believe they're adapting a movie from the first Dungeon Seige game :p - When will hollywood learn...

I liked the mindless hack and slash of Dungeon Siege.

Even though it was a bit different to Diablo2, it was a fun kind of hack and slash.

I especially enjoyed the High-Tech weapons such as the Flamethrower and the Grenade Launcher.

I absolutely loved DS. Noticing it was affiliated with MS< I dismissed it as trash, but tried the demo and couldn't stop playing. You guys that have played RPGs for years need to remember that we all have to start somewhere, and if DS brings more players into the RPG realm, then you have more servers and more players to breathe life into other, more advanced RPGs as well. I bouht BG:II after finishing DS and HATED it ... played it a few hours until I got locked up at one point, and tossed it in the closet.

It's a much harder game if you haven't played any other D&D games, since there is a lot more strategy needed. It is fun once you're ready for it though.

You would probably have a lot of fun playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic if you haven't already, the combat is easy like Dungeon Siege but the characters and story are much richer. SW:KOTOR 1 is relatively cheap now, $20 new ($10-15 used in the FS/FT forum here).

I loved the first one.

However, I do not like this, "In an effort to make the player feel more interactive, when you want to attack, you must continuously right click (a la the Diablo series) or hold the right mouse button on your opponent".

Is KOTOR 2 first person, or third?

KOTOR 1 & 2 are third-person, "continuous turn based" like DS and Baldur's Gate -- everybody attacks automatically and continuously without you needing to aim, and you can pause to give orders at any time.

However, I do not like this, "In an effort to make the player feel more interactive, when you want to attack, you must continuously right click (a la the Diablo series) or hold the right mouse button on your opponent".
that does sound stupid and seems to indicate a lack of imagination.

If combat is boring because it's automatic, solutions are either to add more strategy and so the need for pauses to give orders, or to make the combat more arcade-like / manually-aimed / skill-based like Jade Empire apparently does.

Its going to screw my old DS tactics if they do that. Run in with meleers and have mages constantly casting healing wind.

Diablo2 is a completely different style of Hack N Slash compared to DS. Employing such a combat system is complete lunacy... or as stated, a lack of imagination and inventiveness.

DS beta is available on FilePlanet .... somebody come up with a link or a mirror and make us DS junkies very, very happy. I am so hyped I'm ready to go play DS tonight just to get back into the RPG groove.

They fixed the worst part of DS1, which was the level up system. In DS1, my nature caster could run around firing a bow and level up archery very fast. This was bad though, because the levels in archery counted against my total levels, thus making it harder for me to level up nature thus making me weaker at the end game. If you continue this trend, eventually you become too weak to advance.

The coolest things in DS1 were the chicken gun, the pit maze, and the hidden desert pyramid. I hope they have more things like that.
