Dune movies (Lynch and Sci-Fi channel): Are they only based off the first book?

Reason I ask is after starting and stopping numerous times, I'm finally far enough into the Dune book where I can't simply stop reading it.

But I want to see the movies and stuff, but I purposely avoided them until I read the book. But are both movies just off the first book? I can live with that and not have the remaining 5 spoiled for me.

Thanks a bunch

The Lynch movie and the sci-fi channel version were based on the first book... however Sci-Fi channel has said they are interested in making the other books into movies, by the same director team.
AFAIK the other books have yet to be turned into movies by anyone.

Cool. There are 8 more books including House Corrino. Another 40 hours of Dune would be sweet.

Yeppers it follows the first book very closely.... the original movie "dune" didn't do such a good job even though it was a better movie than the mini series...

From what I heard, the Sci-fi channel version was closer to the original book and Lynch's. Anyway, they are expected to make a Dune 2 for the Sci-fi channel. I believe it's in development.

Yea Both the Movie and the Mini Series are only based off of the First Book. The Sci-Fi Channel is already working on the next mini series which is going to be based off of Dune Messiah & Children of Dune. The entire series is excellent, ive read the entire series twice so far and am waiting for House Corinno to come out in Oct.
