Dune: Extended Edition

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Dune: Extended Edition.

i thought this just had deleted scenes and such added in but its totally different than the original.

Its been years since i watched the original, but i know i'm not forgetting that much about the movie. some of the characters seem different and i know a lot of the sets are totally different and there are scenes from the original that have been removed from this version.

still one of the greatest books (and series) of all time. I think i like the mini-series the Sci-Fi channel more though.

I've always liked the miniseries better myself. The David Lynch movie always disgusted me.

I thought the movie was much better than the mini series, so yes you should. I need to get this new DVD. I forgot about it when it first came out.

The Children of Dune miniseries is far better than the Dune miniseries, where their portrayals of the "evil" Harkonnen take theatrical cues from the old Batman tv show. Red/orange lighting, tilting the camera at an angle... All that was missing were the KAPOW! and WHACK! balloons...

the mini-series is more true to the book and goes into a lot more depth than the movie, even the extended version, does.

Kinda hard to fit everything that was going on in the book into a 2-3 hour movie. I did like the movie though. Never saw the miniseries.

Lynch wanted to originally do a 4-5 hour movie, but he got shot down. Except for turning the wierding way into a sonic gun, I still think he got the really important bits from the book into the movie.
