Dumpster Find Panasonic SA-CH60

Yet another trash find that works 100% 😀
I found a Panasonic SA-CH60 beside the dumpster
It works and sounds decent for a "Mini System" I have it hooked up to my PC for computer music and PC sounds
It is a two piece system, One being the Tuner/Amp/Cassette Deck & the other being the 3-Disc CD Changer that connects VIA a proprietary cable which it came with when I got it.
The unit is from 1994 and is made in Singapore

Any one have anymore information on this? as Panasonic does not seem to know it exists (The same with Google as all I got it pages with people trying to sell theirs)

My only other questions are I don't have the AM loop antenna and Panasonic likes to use the 2 Pin connector for it. I have a bunch of PC two pin connectors (The original will only fit in one way) that will fit in the jack but they fit in both ways. if I splice in an AM loop to one of those connectors does it matter which way it goes?
I am thinking no but I want to make sure

Why do these mini systems almost always use 6 Ohm speakers? And would using 8 Ohm speakers hurt the amp?, I am currently using it with a 8 Ohm pair and they sound fine and the amp does not get that hot

Here is a picture of the Mini Stereo System

I could not find the speakers with it so I am using a pair of KLH b-pro6

Thanks

8 ohm speakers shouldn't be a problem, you just won't get the rated output power, which likely is unrealistic anyway. I'm not sure about the loop antenna, just hook it up and see if it works, then reverse the connector and see if it's better, hooking it up backward won't damage the stereo.

Don't worry about the ohm rating. You're fine. Many lower-end consumer products seem to be left off company servers, so no shock you can't find much info.

there were made better back then. i have an old panasonic stereo that has a motorized volume control. u can turn it up on the remote and a motor inside the stereo turns the volume dial

I used to have an old Pioneer that did that
I thought it was cool back in the day:hmm:

Awesome! I remember when those were all the rage. I think I had an Aiwa, but my friend had a better one so we'd listen to Ace of Base's smash hits "All that she wants" and "the sign" on his, lol.

Cool!🙂 Thanks for reminding me about the 90's hits Those were the good old days!
and just for the hell of it I just put in my two Ace Of Base CD's (The Disc Player Holds three Discs) I don't know why someone threw this system out as to my non-audiophile ears it sounds good

One last question is there a way to make the main units fluorescent display (VFD) brighter
There is no dimmer function on this unit (The remote has none and neither does the main unit or the Disc player) I can just imainge who ever was the previous owner never set the clock and just let it flash 12:00 which can't be good for the display

Is the display just worn out (Damn manufactures and their clocks that are on 24/7) :'(

Lol @ the flashing 12:00!

I always wondered why no one ever thought to have them flash at 11:11. It looks so much less intense.

I always thought that myself
The newer machines (VCR etc) would either display --:-- for an unset clock which is alot better although my VCR is an oddball
it flashes --:-- 12:00 (One flash --:-- the other flash 12:00 and back to --:-- again)

To all:
I just found the manual to this unit. I never thought to look for an SC-CH60 which is what the whole package is called, with the speakers and the remote and other goodies I would of got provided I bought the unit new

SC-CH60 Manual

Ha, my parents had one of these in their office. Got it from a liquidation store. The CD player didn't work though.
