Dumpster Divers of ATOT

What was the weirdest or most valuable item you've found in the trash? I've never partaken in this activity, but I'm sure a lot of people have.

I managed a similar feat. Was great when I was a youngin to have that stuff around.

Haven't done any kind of trash digging since then though.

I found a 300GB Maxtor drive still in the box. No shrink wrap on the box and the drive was in the original static bag. It worked for about a month then died. I had every Sex and the city episode on that drive too. 🙁

I will never buy a Maxtor drive even though that one was free. -M

Perhaps it wasn't dead- the excessive whining you heard could have very well been the sex and the city episodes. 😉

lesson learned - never use opened hard drives- sell them on eBay instead, and make other people suffer!

Actually they accepted the RMA. The replacement will be sold or possibly put in a usb enclosure and shoved in a wall connected to my little brother's pc. He's a pornaholic and denies it so I have a surprise for him. It's not like a big deal for a boy to want to look at that stuff but I found videos of people doing dogs and horses and that was enough to make me barf. :disgust: -M

Yep. There was a recycling center a few blocks from my house when I was a kid. It had a magazine bin right out front.

Found a nice Compaq P4 that's currently sitting in my basement running Apache and other useful server tools. I just recently stopped using it as a DVR.

I found it lying on the side of the street, fired it up to see what was wrong with it and it was just infested with spyware. With a quick reinstall of XP, it was good as new.

I found a list of all the test lines for my city as well as a lot of sensitive customer information. I enjoyed the test lines and destroyed the customer information.

All found in the Ameritech dumpster.
