I just got back from the dump and just about every freaking dumpsters had someone digging in it! I'm talking about 30-40 dumpsters! They were going through every single bag....

Really makes me think twice about what I throw out. Not paperwork as I shred or tear up papers, but other stuff too. WTF is going on when you can't throw something in the trash without wondering if someone else is going to dig it out. :|

I'm calling the COPS on their ass! It's illegal to dump dive in Alaska.

I know someone who dumpster dived for food for a while so he could pay rent, and thus have an address so he could get a job.

Sometimes people are forced into these situations.

Were these poor people or just regular people looking for important documents? Was this outside a bank or insurance company? I saw on the news once that some guy collected garbage from outside banks and would get important documents unshredded. There was no law stopping the banks from just chucking it out like that.

Well I can't say for sure, but most of them had fairly new vehicles (within the last 5 years) and looked to be in fairly good shape.

From what I could see they weren't going for food, rather "stuff" that people just throw out...

Anyway, it's just annoying to have your trash gone through by a stranger. Where else am I supposed to take it other than the dump?

It's trash, don't put important stuff in trash. What's the harm in some guy looking for food or thrown out junk? It doesn't affect you one bit. Mind your own business.

Does it REALLY bother you that much? I mean they ARE diving in piles of YOUR trash.
Isn't that empowering in a very... romanesque way?

Now, if they roll up to the dumps in bimmers or something, then it may be a different story.

He went to the dump, not just to a dumpster.

Who gives a fvck!!!! If someone finds value in my junk, then more power too them. Instead of throwing stuff away, why don't you keep it since it has so much value to you

Sweet OREOSpeedwagon, even though in the world of "dumpster diving," that would be insider trading ;) :D :p
