so first things first: I am on cox roadrunner, and it seems that I keep getting disconnected every once in a while...maybe 2 to 3 times every other day, and I will stay disconnected from 2 to 10 minutes.

what could be the cause? I have a toshiba cable modem, and a wireless router. Is it the service that's bad, or is it one of the hardware problems? what can I do to fix it?

also, one of my friend moved, and he left me his old cable modem. Is there any use for the cable modem? anything I can do w/ it, or should I just put it away?

Sell the modem or keep it as a spare.

Try hooking your computer up without the router and see if it still disconnects.

Try hooking your computer up without the router and see if it still disconnects.

You need to eliminate one thing at a time and this is the quickest to do. You could also power off the computer(s), then the router and then the cable modem. Try powering them back on; cable modem, router then PC(s) if you haven't already.

You could also try your friend's old modem. When you lose your connection does the modem show that it's lost it's connection?

so the way my system is set up, is that I have my cable modem connected to my router, and my router connected to my pc...

and whenever it does the disconnections, the lights always stays on.

I did some swapping around, and with or without the router, and with or without the new cable modem, it still has that disconnection problem.............

is it the service? or what?
