Dumbish question about dual channelling RAM

Hey, all,

Just had a quick question about installing a new DIMM into my IBM ThinkPad T41, model 2373. I used to have two 512MB DIMMs installed but then one went crazy on me (took me forever to figure out what was causing the BSoDs...), so I'd like to replace it.

Question is: Can I install a 1GB DIMM, bringing the total to 1.5GBs and still have the computer use the RAM in dual channel mode? Or, do I need to have DIMMs of equal size?

And, perhaps a more primary question: will my mobo dual channel the RAM at all? I don't remember if it was doing it before it started flipping out on me.

Thanks,

~g

You have to use the same size RAM blocks in pairs to dual channel.

Decent explination of Dual Channel.

As for if your system can handle dual channel, you should be able to research it on IBM's website.
