Ok, so this weekend I'm headed home to see my fiance, but before I leave I decide to go ahead and do some food shopping for the upcoming week. After purchasing about $50 worth of food, I head back to the apartment and put all my food in the refridgerator. I then tell my roommate I'm leaving and head out the door. Turns out my roommate went down to Auburn for the Auburn vs UT game, and decided to turn our electricity off...through the fusebox. So I come home to find my $50 worth of food gone bad (milk, yogurt, etc.). When he gets in I ask him to pay for it. He then goes and says "Why should I have to pay for it, I have to replace my food too, so we're in the same situation" I simply replied "Because you turned our fridge off and ruined the food" to which he responds "You would have done the same thing." This guy is a complete moron. I have to think of a way to get him to pay, or a way to pay him back. Help on either would be appreciated.
 
i say find a room without him knowing then just ditch him like that

man i can't start telling you how much i hate my roomate... he's a total loser...
 
oh yeah how about get ahold of some of his secrets and force him to pay

i know that my roomate hand in fake time sheets for his job. now if he really piss me off i'll just e-mail his boss

I'm currently in a situation where one of my roommates is a beotch. So me, and the third roommate are both moving out Right now, I'm living in the living room of my apartment while the guy who's taking over my lease has started living in my room now, and I'll be moving back into dorm housing by the end of this month. For every beginning, there's an end.

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner. He told me he didn't know how to turn the lights off (light switch anyone?), and I wasn't here to do it. This is the same kid who wants to be an engineer, but hates math. Oh well, only have until Decemeber with him, but I might not be able to survive that long.

I would just pinch his food for a few weeks, until you think you have eaten $50 worth. He's never gonna see the situation as his fault so don't even bring up repatriation, just do it.
 
The Dale Carnegie method of solving this problem is to not make him feel like a dumbass. He knows he messed up, he knows he looks like an idiot. If you sympathize with him you stand a much better chance of getting some money back than if you beat him over the head with his dumbassness.

The next time he's writing a REALLY important paper, or something like that, BAM, kill the fuse box. Tell him you were just turning out the lights.
