Hi there,

I'm a newbie to windows networks and networks in particular, I've searched the for answers but can't find any (probably cause I dont even knwo what I'm looking for) so I would really appreciate some help.

Here's the story:

I have two new computers each running Windows 2000 SP2. Each computer is connected through a nework card to a port in the wall. At the other end of the office there is a router that connects to a fibre network for my internet access. Each connection is connected to a cisco porti trunk to router thingy.

I'm trying to share folders with the other computer. Pass files between them etc. I can't do this. When I search the entire network each computer can't find the other. I simply want to share folders and have one computer connect to a sql server database thats sitting on the other machine. I need to get the computers to recognise each other through the router.

I was speculating that I'd need to connect both computers to a hub then connect the hub to the router. But why can't I simply access the other computer through the router?

Thanks heaps, Billie

If you know the ip address of each computer, try pinging them to see if indeed they're there.
