Dumb Question, Whats the purpose of registered rams ??

I bought this Crucial DDR rams that was supposed to be ECC but it turns out to be ECC and registered.

It would not work with my Giga SIS645 , Soltek KT266A or Epox 845D motherboard. But it did work with the Epox AMD761 chipset.

SO whats the purpose of getting registered rams and what type of MB are you using it in ??
I know people use ECC rams in servers and stuff but don't know too much about registered.

No clue, all I know is that it doesn't work in most machines yet it costs more.

Please read the FAQ: What are ECC, Registered and Buffered SDRAM?

The i845 chipset can handle ECC RAM, but not ECC Registered RAM.
