just added 256 mg of ram to my already existing 256 mg. In my system info it now tells me I have 480 mgb's What happened to the other 32????

Using onboard video? Can't think of much else, and it is always very helpful if you list the specs of your computer, makes it a bit easier to figure things out, if we know what you have...

mayby what stevty2889 said, using onboard video? or mix/matching different brands of ram might cause problems as well.

I've seen ram sticks have problems and still pretend to work - they almost invariably report half-capacity though. I'd put my money on integrated video.

Sometimes, windows does display different amounts of memory, but usually its only a few megabytes out. Your best bet is what the others are saying, shared memory is being used, as 32mb is a typical amount that would be used by your video card

Thanks for the info...that makes sense (so it always does with hindsight!). What happens to that 32 mg of memory when I install my graphic board?

You get it back if your not using the onboard video. Your bios should have some kind of a disable option. If it doesn't do it automatically when you install your video card.

it gets reuinited with the other 480 megs of RAM and they live the rest of their lives in harmony.
