Dumb question but I have to ask anyway

If I build a system using a AMD 64 CPU (not dual processor) can I still use my 32 bit Windows XP program? I figured you can but some people (who aren't really sure either) think you have to use Win 64 bit.

Note: I know I should already know this but I don't, so easy on the dumba$$ remarks, thanks.

Note2: I know some of you are STILL going to call me a dumba$$ so go ahead and get out of your system.

Most 32bit apps will run fine, although there are some that you're going to run into problems with.

If you've got a specific app you're worried about you might want to post and ask if anyone else has tried to run it; otherwise load it up and give it a shot!

Thanks syyordie, I just didn't to build a system that I didn't have software for and have to buy all over again. Appreciate the help.

I believe you're answering the question "Do 32-bit applications run under 64-bit WinXP." His question is instead, "Can 32-bit WinXP run on an Athlon 64," to which the answer is a definate Yes.

Almost all here using 64-bit processors are using the 32-bit WinXP version.

My mistake, I thought the OP was looking to run 32bit code under the x64 version of windows. You are correct of course that the 32bit version of windows would would run fine.
