The default controls for Quake is a pain in the butt. How can I get the controls to act like Unreals? Where you actually move with the right and left arrow keys.

Doesnt make sense why both the mouse keys and arrow keys only turn you. Whenever I try to switch the left and right arrow keys to straff or move, it just stays the same but adds "or shift key" .

And damn, I don't remember Q3 looking this outdated before. Use to look so cool on the Dreamcast.

quake 3 came out in late 99 it's not 5 years old. I dont remember having problems binding the arows to strafe. Have you tried unbinding turn left/right? Maybe you are binding strafe modifier(or whetevr that is?) also you can always try binding it in your config and making it read only.

Looks like 5 years to me.

Try reinstalling, and installing the updated patch.

Q3's netcode is so over rated! Always been a pita for me anyways. Half Life has good netcode, Q3 has good "easy-kill" identification. ;)

the default Q3 controls SHOULD have A&D as strafe left & strafe right, not turning. The arrow keys however I'm less sure about, but you can change them simply via the controls options menu, its not hard. if it is, RTFM, and if that still too much of a task accept it as a problem between the chair and keyboard.

here's teh 1337 pr0 way:

open console ingame (key under ESC) and type in:
/bind LEFTARROW <enter>
and see what it says it is bound to, you want "+moveleft".
Do the same with RIGHTARROW, this time it should be "+moveright".

You can do similar to actually set the keys aswell -
/bind LEFTARROW "+moveleft"
/bind RIGHTARROW "+moveright"

(either case will do but using the caps above makes it clearer).

Just incase youre using the keypad/numberpad arrows, the relevant keynames are KP_LEFTARROW and KP_RIGHTARROW

huh? just bind dude:p its in controls setup? ;)

wasd is your friend. if you havn't converted yet, its time. i converted from arrow keys to wasd back during wolfenstien to doom days:) doesn't take all that long to get used to, and its superior for the simple fact that the area is surrounded by keys that can used for other functions in many games. plus, its more ergonomic.

Outdated? Quake III still rivals some of the newer games and in particular it blows away most of them in terms of how fast it runs.
