Dumb question about electrical stuff

So, in this cable, there's this doodad here.

Looking inside, it looks like they just folded the wires over a couple times to shorten them, stuck them inside a short square piece of plastic, and heat-shrunk it in place.

Does this have a proper name, and if so, what? I've had to refer to it three or four times already this morning, and I am sick of feeling like a moron. "Heat shrink thingy...?"

Thanks!

1. Wires wound around a ferrite: an EMI filter
2. Wires wound around plastic or nothing: either:
2(A). a strain relief
2(B). a fake EMI filter
